THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING COUNCIL OF OLYMPIA MASTER BUILDERS ANNOUNCES 2016 CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENTS

 OLYMPIA, WA, June 30, 2016 – The Affordable Housing Council (TAHC) of Olympia Master Builders (OMB) is pleased to announce the endorsement of 15 candidates within its five-county service area. Legislative candidates were endorsed based on their voting record on builder issues.  Questionnaires were sent to candidates running for local office. TAHC Trustees reviewed each completed questionnaire returned by the candidates.

GROWTH MANAGEMENT HEARINGS BOARD RULES AGAINST THURSTON COUNTY’S MAZAMA POCKET GOPHER REVIEW PROCESS

Olympia, WA, May 16, 2016 – Last Friday afternoon, the Western Washington Region of the Growth Management Hearings Board (GMHB) issued its Final Decision and Order stating that Thurston County’s 2015 Interim Process for reviewing permits in Mazama Pocket Gopher soils violated the state’s Growth Management Act (GMA).

LOCAL BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY GROUPS STAND UP FOR FAIRNESS, CITIZEN INPUT IN THURSTON COUNTY

 Olympia, WA, November 24, 2015 – Today, attorneys for Olympia Master Builders, the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce, and Hinkle Homes filed a lawsuit against Thurston County in Lewis County Superior Court.  The lawsuit asks the court to direct Thurston County to stop its unlawful interim permitting process for land use applications located within the alleged habitat of the Mazama pocket gopher Washington state’s Growth Management Act (GMA).

OLYMPIA, WA, September 9, 2015 – The Affordable Housing Council of Olympia Master Builders (TAHC) is pleased to announce the endorsement of 12 candidates within its five-county service area. Endorsement questionnaires were sent to several candidates running for office in contested races. TAHC Trustees carefully reviewed completed questionnaires that were returned by the candidates. This week the group interviewed a few select candidates to finalize their endorsement decisions.

Master Builders Satisfied With Limited Impact Fee Ordinance

 Chehalis, WA-The Lewis County Chapter of Olympia Master Builders (OMB) supports yesterday’s adoption of a new, very limited impact fee ordinance in Lewis County. The new ordinance, which applies only to the Birchfield Fully Contained Community (FCC), is the end result of several years of work by the county to allow the FCC to move forward, while complying with state law. Impact fees will not be collected anywhere else in the county.

BUILDER CONFIDENCE IN THE HOUSING MARKET DIPPED IN OCTOBER

OLYMPIA, WA, October 21, 2014 – New single-family builder confidence in the housing market dropped five points nationally to a 54 in October, but confidence is still good according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI).  Local builders mostly agree with the statistic.

“After the HMI posted a nine-year high in September, it’s not surprising to see the number drop in October,” said NAHB Chief Economist David Crowe. “However, historically low mortgage interest rates, steady job gains, and significant pent-up demand all point to continued growth of the housing market.”

LOCAL BUILDERS PRAISED BUXBAUM’S VIEW ON COMP PLAN

 OLYMPIA, WA – Local builders at Olympia Master Builders (OMB) praised Olympia Mayor Stephen Buxbaum today for words spoken at a recent City Council work session to discuss revisions to the draft Comprehensive Plan Update. Buxbaum cautioned his fellow councilmembers against filling the Comprehensive Plan with too many specific and absolute requirements.

OMB PRESENTED 2014 TOUR OF HOMESTM AWARDS TO DESERVING BUILDERS AND REMODELERS

OLYMPIA, WA-The Olympia Master Builders (OMB) hosted the 2014 Tour of HomesTM Awards Night on Tuesday, October 7 at The Heritage Room on Capitol Lake to present both Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice Awards for the Tour of HomesTM. The Tour of HomesTM, held each year at the end of August, is a scattered site event granting the public access to tour new and remodeled homes in Thurston County.
